If you guys aware that I wasn’t in your messenger list during working hour anymore for the past few days, yes thank you for being so observant and please tell me who you are because I want to know that my presence actually means something to you, and I’ll be damn happy about it. Yes, I’m no longer using messenger during working hour anymore because I find it disturbing and those alerts and messages are driving me nuts. My productivity was affected and I can’t concentrate at all in my work. So I tried to off it last week and surprisingly, it did help a lot. So I’m going to suggest to HR department next week so that they will fire anyone who is still having that piece of evil software in their machine.
Ok ok, anyone who knows me well enough won’t believe what I’ve written just now, I mean how could something like messenger can affect my efficiency at work? Chatting while programming is like chewing my bread while breathing, so here’s the real story. I’m now working at customer site for 1-2 months during the SIT (system integration and test) phase. But I don’t think I can online anymore even after 1-2 months because I don’t think I’ll be released until the system goes live which will take around 3 months at least.
And if you are wondering, I’m now working at one of the bank in KL which the building itself looks very nice from the outside. But the security there was a joke because a set of formal attire and my usual thick-framed glasses is all I need to access that building. And it’s very generous of them to offer us a comfy room as an office which provides us with everything necessary and, nothing more. And after the office, I went to check the toilet which is the second most important place after my office and luckily, it’s clean and cozy. And the third most important place is the staircase and I’m quite happy with it too.
Everything was fine actually because I don’t live there and I only work there temporarily but what pisses me off was the internet connection. Well even though the whole building runs no messenger and blocks all inappropriate file download, it loads Google in what, an average of 10 seconds? And that’s only when the connection is up because for the past 4 days I was there, the connection was down in the first 3, and I can only feel real internet surfing experience after 5pm when everyone was starting to go home. And if you think internet connection is not important to IT people especially programmer at work, well you are very wrong. It’s like oxygen to us and I was surprised that I’m still alive after the first 3 days. And thankfully, my project manager looked into the problem and agreed to get us Streamyx and isolates our network from them. I was thinking of saying Streamyx saves the day but on second thought, No! Never! But this is not a post to voice out how bad Streamyx is, so maybe I’ll save it for another time.
To M, yah I know it’s hard for you to cope without seeing me on your list and just in case if it’s not really hard at all, please pretend to be so to save my face. And to everyone else, I still can be contacted via Google Talk or email during working hour and just in case if you guys are missing me too much, please don’t torture yourself, just drop me an email :p. And luckily they didn’t block Google Talk yet because M and I rely on it now to stay connected. And again M if you don’t, please pretend, pretend! Shit I think this is the effect of lacking oxygen for 3 days.
