I like to blog about movies recently, maybe because I watched a little too much lately. And this one is about illogical things which I think shouldn’t happen in movies, but somehow keep on happening until people accepted them subconsciously:
Hackers can do anything with computer
I still remember Independence Day where one of the main actors spread some computer viruses into the alien’s mother ship and blows up everything. Well it does sound very cool but in real world, we have interoperability issues even between computer platforms. And somehow, this genius is able to write codes which works on an alien machine. And there are a few more movies where hackers like to impossibly say “Are you crazy? You want me to hack into the bank security system/government top secret database/ NASA” but somehow, they managed to do it in the end without any problem.
Human beings always get lucky
I’m talking about large-scaled disaster movies which lead to the end the world like alien invasion (Independence Day, War of the World), raining asteroids (Armageddon, Deep Impact), and natural disaster (The Day After Tomorrow, The Core). In the beginning of these movies, humans were killed, everything which looks cool to be destroyed, will be destroyed and these disasters were so enormous until there is actually no chance for human to survive. But that’s just the beginning because later somehow, some guy will figure out some way to save the world. And although the possibility for the great plan to succeed is extremely low, but everything will go well in the end.
Important people will not get shot
Equality does not apply between the bad guys and the main casts. An army of bad guys with machines guns and grenades will always fail to kill important people with handguns in the end. And these people with guns like to talk. I mean, whenever if there is a hostage situation or held at gunpoint situation, they will always have a very nice conversation before something bad happens to the one who talk the most. Yes, bad things always happen to the one who talk the most.
Car chasing situation
After the bad guys sped off, the good guy who suppose to chase can still get them after they’d successfully seized a car. And the one who is chasing will always know short cuts even though they have no idea where the bad guys are heading to. In another situation, good guys’s car will always fail to start whenever they need them and after a few thumping and punching on the wheel, it works!
Happily ever after
Yes, no matter how talented those bad guys are, how intelligent those aliens are, how strong those monsters/zombies/mutants are, how perfect those bank robberies plan are, it doesn’t really matter because in the end, good guys will save the day and everything will be just fine. Although there are a few exceptions where bad guys win (Swordfish, Paparazzi, Hit and Blast) but, who doesn’t like a happy ending?
