Well this is not one of my previous posts which the title says it all, I mean not exactly all. Well the more important ‘brand’ I would like to share here can be defined as a product, a trademark or whatever you would like to call it which resembles an identification of some thing.
Let’s consider this situation where you ask a friend on whether he or she has taken his meal and you get “McDonalds” as an answer. Well there is nothing wrong with the conversation as both parties really understand each other very well but logically, this doesn’t seem to make much sense. I mean why can’t she just answer with burgers and fries?
Before I continue I would like to share another very interesting story regarding the world best chicken slaughter seller, KFC. KFC has recently built an 87500 square feet logo and put it in a desert just for its brand to be seen from space. (You can access the article here). Well I couldn’t find better words to describe 87500 square feel other than ‘large’ or ‘huge’, but isn’t it better to hang that logo somewhere else which could be seen easier by human beings like for instance, in front of his own restaurant? No, because if they did, the press won’t do anything for them and I won’t blog it
Brands are almost equivalent to status where people won’t tell you that they had coffee for teatime but they are more willing to tell you they had Starbucks. Although I’m not any coffee expert but a few months of working experience in one of the big brand of coffee seller didn’t open my eyes of how superior their coffee is compared with those 3 in 1 instant packs.
Let’s talk about another great technology story last month where Google bought YouTube with 1.65 Billion. Now if you are not too sure of how much 1b is, it’s equivalent to a thousand of 1 million which also equivalent to winning “Who wants to be a millionaire” a thousand times. Now why Google would spend so much money on this video sharing website when they already had their own Google Video? Well I can say that it’s not the quality that they are buying, but the brand. The term where people will know what you are doing when you tell them YouTube
And whether you like it or not, we are now living in a world where brands are battling each others and are slowly taking over nouns. A few examples are Google for search, Nokia for phones, Nike for apparel, Ferrari for car, Ipod for portable multimedia player and the list goes on. And there are rivals for each of these brands like Yahoo, Sony Ericsson, Adidas, Porche, Zune and again, the list goes on for each of them.
Till now, this statement will start to make some sense: “I was Googling and suddenly my Nokia rang. I picked up the call but forgot about the Ipod in my ears. So I activated the loud speaker instead and get my Nike hanging in the wardrobe. It was my buddy inviting me for some Starbucks. I agreed and went out with my Ferrari”.
Anyway, I do like fried chicken from Kentucky
